Even more projects

I have other things in the works as well. Yesterday I made some Candy Pacifiers with Lifesavers and Good and Plenty candy. I wish I had used Tic Tacs, but at the time I could only find green or orange. Do they even make blue tic tacs? Anyway they're done and I still need to get a pic. of these. I will be making the handmade mints with molds (I bought off of E-Bay) with Des's bff. My dh loving said "oh, those mints no one ever eats". Thanks Hon.

I'm also working on an 8x8 mini Scrapbook album for the "other" Grandma. This is her first Grandchild as well. I will send her picture to add to this. This baby will have plenty of scrapbooks!

I made "Baby Shoes" out of styrofoam cups and some ribbon. You can find the video for this on Youtube. They were quick and easy to make. I'll be filling these with Nuts and Goldfish. You could even tie a bellonto these.

Today I'm rolling up blue knives, forks and spoons in blue napkins and tying with curling ribbon.

Do you have a $$ store near you? We have the Dollar tree and I have to say I have bought more things there for this shower than I would have thought. I've got crepe paper, compartment plates, napkins, plastic platters and bowls, s&p shakers, small prs of tongs (4 to a pack), salad tongs, little glass bowls, the weight things for the balloons, and so many other things from there. I also bought things like baggies, trash bags, foil etc. They also have some baby decorations. I did buy a nice felt pennant style banner from Hobby Lobby though. Of course I used a coupon. My basement is filling with things for the shower!

Another project idea I got off of Youtube was the Clothesline Gift. I was lucky enough to find a beautiful large basket for this. However it was pink. But a can of spray paint fixed that and now it's a pretty blue. I bought 3 pkgs. of colored clothes pins from Dollar General and a blue clothesline, both were only $1 a pkg. Then I attached the things I've been buying for the baby, onsies, booties, pants, wash cloths, socks, bibs, you name it, if it could go on a clothes pin I attached it. Then I put the clothesline with everything dangling carefully inside the basket and covered it with a recieving blanket.

I'm going to be carving a Watermelon into a carriage and filling it with fruit. Again you can find directions for this on Youtube. I'd like to make a small mobile to attach to the top of it, but I haven't come up with a solid plan for this yet.

Guest book. I didn't want something too big and so I bought a small notebook that I will alter. We will have the guest sign their names in here and add who gave what. It's small enough to be a keepsake, but hopefully big enough to read.

I will be doing part of this baby shower with Desire's bff. She wants to get one of those photo mats for everyone to sign. I saw them in the baby section at Hobby Lobby.

Another idea I have is to get a pic of all the guests with Matt and Desire. Now if I can just get my son to cooperate! Also to take a pic of each gift. I'm also hoping to get my niece to help me video tape the shower. I still haven't decided whether or not to put out a few disposable camera's or not.

I bought a small rectangular basket. This will be for cards. I wrapped a ribbon around and cut out little pennants and attached the letters to spell out C A R D S.

I need to make up some direction signs. Again I'll use my Cricut for this. I also need to make up some decorative gift tags. I have some wrapped gifts that need a few along with the diaper bag I bought just for my son, a Guy Bag. I filled it with the essentials he'll need.

Hate blowing up balloons? I found a little pump that will do this. I bought some reg. balloons that say It's a Boy at HL. I will also buy some mylar balloons closer to the shower date. I don't need these floating around my house right now, lol. But I did buy the little weights they will attach to already-again from the $$ store.

The Tables. There are 5 round tables at the clubhouse. I can't find disposable table cloths for these, just the long tables that the food will be served on. So, on the tables I will put the balloon weight and attach some balloons. There is cathederal ceiling and I think the height will look nice. I will add some of the bootie nut cups and just keep it simple since everyone will be eating.

The Cake. I have taken cake decorating lessons and can do this, but instead I'm going to have this done by King Soopers (aka City Market or Krogers in other places). I want to have a picture of M&D put on it. But that one is still up in the air.

I want to decorate a wipes case. You just get some material and hot glue it on. Again, directions on YT.

Notice I haven't mentioned games? I loathe these! However Des's Mom lives in CA and wants to help from there. She thinks we should play some games, so I told her she could be in charge of them. I will make sure I'm busy during this time! LOL. Although I think getting those tiny plastic babies and putting them into ice cubes would be cute. Then you play the "whose water can break first" game.

Advice Book. I will be cutting out the same onsies I used for the invites and having everyone give some advice for the new parents. I will have a hole punched in them and when they're done they can attach them to a ring that will make a little book.

We only have about 1/2 hour to set things up since someone else is using the clubhouse before us. I already have my to-do list for when we arrive. I have plenty of help enlisted for this part. I think we can, I think we can.

One last thing is I'm thinking of making a poster board of pix from the pregnancy, and putting it behind the table where they will sign the guest book.

Lists. I have a list for everything. Guest list, Menu, grocery list, list of things I could buy early, things I have already bought, addresses for the invites, to do list once we get there, check list to make sure I don;t forget to take anything,

Well, there you have most of my ideas. I hope I have inspired someone. Am I missing anything? Let me know. Maybe you have some other idea or project idea for me. This has been SO much FUN!!!

More projects

I think there's been more to do for this shower than things I do to get ready for Christmas (another favorite of mine).

At 20 weeks she had an ultrasound done. They gave her dvd's, and so I got to see it. So cool! I thought in one of the pictures they also gave her that he looks like my son. We shall see. I also made copies for her family.

Desire's last Dr. appt. was a little un-nerving. We found out that she's RH negative. Matt is not, which means that if her blood and the babies were to mix she would begin to create antibodies against the baby that could result in illness, brain damage or death in the baby. Luckily they now have a shot for this. They told her that in years past the woman would give birth to a still born and then die a couple of days later. Totally unnecessary to have told her this, it just freaked her out! I can't help but wonder if this was the cause years ago of women dying in childbirth. I'm so happy they are aware of her condition and can monitor it. The day after the shower she will be going in for tests and getting this shot.

Pictures. I LOVE taking pictures! Every month we take pictures to chart her progress. She started showing by the 2nd month. Just a little bit, but you could see it. The baby is really growing month by month. Yesterday we took pix again and this is my favorite so far.

There's More

The first project I did was to begin to make the invitations. I'm a scrapbooker, so buying them was out of the question. I saw this idea on the Cricut messageboard. I got a little over zealous and made both girl and boy invites since I didn't know yet what the sex would be. I guess I have a lot of girl cards I can use over the next 20 years, lol. I bought some clear envelopes to mail them in off of E-Bay. I think I paid around $9 and got about 50 of them. However they were square envelopes and I wound up paying .64 each to mail them. I delivered as many as I could.

The next project I did was to crochet not 1, but 2 baby blankets. One in creme and one in mint green. I have these wrapped now and didn't get any pictures. I guess we'll have to wait until she opens them at the shower to get pix.

So, now we know it's a boy. I think I knew that all along. The week before she told me I had a dream about a little boy being born and showing this baby to it's Aunt and Uncle. Hmm.

Back to the diapers. I couldn't seem to stop at just one diaper project, after all I still had leftover diapers. So, I created a diaper motorcycle. I just rolled a few diapers and made 2 large circles, put burp cloths over the "wheels", used 3 recieving blankets to assemble in the middle with toy links, and one for the handle bars, a bottle rolled in a wash cloth for the headlight, a teddy bear dressed up and some toy keys finished it. Then with some more remaining diapers I assembled a diaper Baby. This was my favorite project. I used a newborn outfit and just placed rolled diapers inside for the body. Then made another wheel of diapers, added a hat and pacifier for the head. This one was easy!
Then I made some sock roses (you can find instructions for these on Youtube). The socks are easy to turn into roses, but the floral tape is sticky and not so easy to work with. I tried to do them with onsies, but found that they were top heavy and had to ditch them. I had to buy more socks to finish it. Martha Stewart may have enjoyed making this, but I didn't, lol. I bought the vase at the $$ store and filled it with the clear pebbles. I tied a ribbon around and added a charm from Michael's that says It's a Boy.
I bought toys...ok, I went t little nuts with toys. I needed a way to present them then, right? So...I made one more diaper project, a Toy wreath. I bought one of those 4 ring wreath frames from Hobby Lobby for about $2.50, and added diapers and tied them with curling ribbon. I then tied the toys to the wreath with these same ribbons. Tip on these: the directions called for 18 diapers, which fit around nicely. However if your going to add anything heavy like say lots of toys your going to need more because although while lying down the wreath looked great, once I held it up the diapers slid. I had to add at least 4 more diapers, and it may have been 6. I also had to tie the toys on better. Always hold the wreath up to see how it's going to look. You don;t have to put just toys on, I've seen a variety of a lot of things tied onto these, onsies, wash cloths, bottles, whatever you like.
All these projects will be used as decorations at the Baby Shower, but when taken apart will hold diapers and other useful items. Such Fun!

In the mean time I also began shopping for things on the menu. Things that would keep like cans of black olives, mustard, ketchup, you know that sort of thing. As of today I think I have everything I can buy ahead of time and the rest will have to wait until the week of.
There's 4 weeks until the shower.

My Baby Shower Fun

Well, it all began when I found out that I'm going to be a Grandma for the first time back in March. My oldest son Matt and his Fiance' Desire'. She was only about 3 weeks along. I love being Creative, although I'm not all that great in coming up with my own ideas sometimes. However I'm great at following others ideas, LOL. So, I started off watching YouTube videos. First I watched the ones on making a diaper cake because I knew I'd be doing that. I knew just exactly how it would look if it was a Girl. Then on to other videos. I found so many great ideas.

I was a little surprised that Desire' wanted a Co-Ed Baby Shower. What?! I'd never heard of such a thing. So it was decided that I'd do a BBQ. We had a beginning.

The first thing I did was to get a composition notebook. I'm a list maker, and I started here. I started with a guest list. Next was the menu. Then I found a place to have the shower. I'd been there before and it was a beautiful place to have it. Luckily I got it reserved through a friend of a friend and didn't have to pay any deposit. It's at a newer Clubhouse at a mobile home park.

The Diaper Cake:
I began shopping, picking up things here and there for this-trying to make them neutral. I went to the Luv's website and printed off coupons for diapers. I wound up getting the bags of diapers for just $4.50 each. I went ahead and rolled them up. I just had to wait to see whether it was a girl or boy, remember I had that pretty Girl's one all planned out. But as fate has it, it's a Boy. So, I finished getting the things I need for it and it only took a couple of hours to make a rather ahem...very large diaper cake. But it's cute, can I saw that? I hope to get my own video of it up on YouTube in a couple of weeks. I did it once, but didn't like how it turned out. Hopefully I can figure out how to resize it to get it up on there.
